— A healthy spine

is a healthy human

The spine is one of the most important parts of the human skeleton. Apart from the supporting and motor function it also protects our spinal cord. A properly shaped spine is a system characterized by an appropriate alignment of the vertebrae in relation to each other. The spine consists of 33-34 vertebrae, divided into 5 sections: cervical (7 vertebrae), thoracic (12 vertebrae), lumbar (5 vertebrae), sacral (formed from 5 fused vertebrae) and cervical / caudal (formed from 4 vertebrae). -5 fused vertebrae).

There are also physiological, i.e. CORRECT CURVES of individual sections: cervical lordosis, thoracic kyphosis, lumbar lordosis and sacral kyphosis. LORDOSIS is a forward bend, KYPHOSIS is a backward bend that allows our body to function efficiently. Such a structure of the spine allows you to perform straightening, bends, and rotation, and makes it more resistant to deformation and absorbs shocks transmitted to the head.

Each disorder of the symmetry of this system is already an abnormality, which can result in overstrain, limitation of the range of motion, degenerative changes and pain.

Pain in the spine affects our entire body and the proper functioning of internal organs, which can contribute to many diseases and cause severe pain. The spine is not designed for long hours of sitting and standing but for movement.

It is worth remembering not to subject it to unnecessary additional loads. That is why physioprophylaxis and taking care of the spine on a daily basis (including regular exercises, ergonomic workstation in front of the computer, avoiding slouching, properly lifting heavy things from the floor, etc.) are so important in order to prevent overload, posture defects, diseases of affluence, accidents and injuries.

The Health Is Most Important Foundation

Agnieszka Dąbkowska, the chairwoman of the FZJN, the founder of the Active Spine educational campaign has been injured in a car accident and has been suffering from a severe spasticity (muscle tightness) as a result of her spinal cord damage. The FZJN team mostly consists of people with motor disabilities. They know how important a healthy spine is, something one does not pay attention to until they encounter problems with it.

FZJN was established in January 2014 and aims to increase the awareness of and the access to the medical services that include physiotherapy and physiatry for as many people that seek help as possible. It is because in many cases early medical intervention or physiatry is essential for quick recovery and reduction of complications.
